Back in November we were nominated for our first Liebster Award, which was just so amazing. Well we've just been nominated for our SECOND one by the amazing duo over at The Global Couple.
The Liebster award is given to bloggers from bloggers to help spread the word about new and awesome content that is being created out there so that more people can enjoy it. So, the fact that we've been nominated again absolutely blows my mind. And the fact that we've been nominated by two great blogs is ever more special. The Global Couple is a seriously cool couple comprised of Petra and Shaun from New Zealand. You should head over to their blog and check out some of the really cool trips they're going on.
Part of the deal with a Liebster award, besides basking in the glow of all that recognition is 1) to answer a few questions posed by the blog who nominated you. So lets kick that off!
-What is one thing you have learned from another culture while traveling that you now apply to your own life?
A: One thing I really appreciated about Italy was their more laid back approach to life. Sometimes it was frustrating when we were trying to figure out when there was going to be a bus or a train. We'd ask what the schedule was and they'd shrug as if the concept of having a schedule was absurd. "It gets here when it gets here". It was a hard but important thing for me to learn. You can't force things to happen based on your own personal time table and to learn to relax and go with the flow is more important. I still struggle with that, but it's something I've been trying to apply in my every day life a bit more.
-What is your ultimate bucket list destination (if you had unlimited money) and why?
A. This might seem weird but I'd consider making it to Antarctica a huge accomplishment. It's one place where very few people make it. I really want to see as much of the world as I can, and that includes Antarctica. I want to see penguins and glaciers and just soak up the incredible beauty that's there.
-If you had to live in one country for the rest of your life, where would that be and why?
A. Oh geez, that's a tough one! I can't imagine only getting to choose one. I love the US, but I think I would pick New Zealand. It's so gorgeous, the people are amazing, and we just loved our time there. One thing I really loved about Kiwis is how they embrace adventure and travel. It's just part of who they are. I think I could be happy in New Zealand for the rest of my life for sure!
-What is your favorite cuisine?
A. It's probably easiest to say what cuisine I don't like. I like all food and I love trying new things. But I LOVE Italian food. I love carbs and sauce and fresh ingredients all melded together into one delicious dish. This is making me hungry just thinking about it. Oh wait, does ice cream count as a cuisine..?!
-Why do you travel?
A. I have this aching in my bones that I'm going to miss out on something amazing in this world. This world that we live in is full with wonders, adventure, and beauty in every corner. I don't want to miss out on a single bit of it. I travel to learn, to experience, and to have as full of a life as I can.
-How do you decide on the destination for your trips?
A. Well, Pat and I take a trip every year for our anniversary. For that trip, we switch off picking the destination. So, last I year I chose Italy and this year was Pat's turn to choose. He chose Key West. He definitely favors destinations where there's a high chance of beach time and drinks with umbrellas in them. For me, there's less rhyme or reason. I have an endless list of places I want to go and sometimes it's just a gut feeling about where it will be next.
-What is your favorite social media?
A. I really like Instagram and I wish I would have started on their sooner. For the longest time I didn't have a phone that was cool enough to download it. So I was a bit late to the Instagram game. There's infinitely less drama on there than other social media and it definitely feeds my wanderlust needs. Since I am just starting to really get busy on Instagram feel free to hit us up on there @2happytravelers! You can see some of most recent pictures in the sidebar >>>
-What is your go-to home cooked meal?
A. Pat does most of the cooking, which I feel so lucky about every single day. If it wasn't for him, I would starve. Not from lack of cooking skills, but I am just terrible about feeding myself. My favorite meal for Pat to make me is a toss up between his lamb or stuffed shells....oh geez the hunger is hitting again...ack! My go-to meal to make is probably some kind of pasta. I'm the worst and so boring. I need every single ingredient or else I go around opening all the cabinets and tell myself there's no food and we're all going to die. Somehow Pat takes "no food" and makes an amazing meal. I'm convinced it's sorcery.
-If you could have any job in the world, what would it be and why?
A. hmmm? Growing up, I really wanted to be an ambassador and work in embassies and travel all over the world. Basically, I would be happy doing anything that paid me to travel the world with Pat. But really, I love my current day job. I work in economic development which does require me to travel from time to time. I really enjoy the field and it's something that you can do all over the world.
-If you could have dinner with a famous person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
A. I think I'd like to have dinner with Jackie Kennedy. She's one of the classiest women ever. I imagine that she would have endless advice on everything from overcoming adversity to the best hat to wear while meeting the queen.

Hi there! I'm Skeeter. I grew up moving a lot and that makes me a bit restless for travel and exploration. I started this blog with my husband Pat when we decided to backpack New Zealand for a year. We are always looking for the next adventure and are loving life. We're just your average couple with two sassy dogs and a love for travel. We're sharing our travels and the tips we pick up along the way.
Hello! I'm Liz. Blogging is very new to me, but I'm so excited to finally write as much as I talk!
