How many posts have you seen about 20 trips to take in your 20's, or 100 places to see before you die?
A lot, right?
I know these posts are meant to be motivating, but is it really reasonable for most people to take 20 separate international trips in their 20's?
It can be done, yes. But most people in their 20's are going to school or starting their first jobs that have 5 days of vacation time. While there are lots of ways to make money stretch and you can take advantage of long weekends, most of us aren't going to be able to take 4 weeks of vacation to jet set in our 20's.
Sorry, I'm mostly ranting at myself. I was going to do a post about 30 travel tips for your 30's, but then I decided that was stupid.
I hate the posts that basically tell you that if you haven't visited these places/read these books/tried these foods by the time you're (insert age) then you are behind in life and not living up to your potential.
Listen to Taylor, and do what you want!
You want to forgo buying a big house and slum it so you can travel all the time? Do it!
You want to eat cake for breakfast? Do it!
You want to quit your job and pursue your passion for (insert awesome thing you love)? Do it!
Stop living up to other people's expectations for what makes an awesome and complete life. I don't know how many times people have commented about how crazy/expensive/not realistic it is to make traveling a priority or to have spent a year abroad, or simply moving to Oregon. But that's what I wanted to do so...yeah I did it. It doesn't make me special, plenty of people are doing their own thing; starting businesses, dedicating their lives to others, and generally being awesome.
That's the whole reason you wanted to grow up as a kid right? To do what you want! It can be scary, but remember...
So for the rest of you that are just checking things off because you think that's what you're supposed to do...start doing what you want. It's fun, trust me! Start living your life exactly the way YOU want.
And be like Alan, and travel happy!
Hi there! I'm Skeeter. I grew up moving a lot and that makes me a bit restless for travel and exploration. I started this blog with my husband Pat when we decided to backpack New Zealand for a year. We are always looking for the next adventure and are loving life. We're just your average couple with two sassy dogs and a love for travel. We're sharing our travels and the tips we pick up along the way.
Hello! I'm Liz. Blogging is very new to me, but I'm so excited to finally write as much as I talk!
