When we were researching New Zealand, one thing we always read about the weather was that it is changable. It is so true! Pat and I are starting to figure out what the cause is though. On days when we are planning on staying in and read our books or when I have to work, it's beautiful, without a cloud in site. When I have a day off, and we plan on going for a hike or a run along the beach, it turns to doom and gloom, and rains cats and dogs. So, to trick the weather, Pat and I say the opposite of what we are going to do. If we want to ride the ferry from town to a neighboring beach to go for a hike and a picnic, we'll say " I think we should just stay in, and relax for the day". We did, and it was beautiful. I then made the mistake of saying ' It's beautiful, we should get our stuff ready, and go to the ferry today." Within 15 min, the whole town of Whitianga was covered in dark rain clouds, with no blue sky on the horizon. Sigh! So now, I'm pretending that I just wanna stay home today, with hopes that the clouds will dissapear. With my luck they wont dissapear until tomorrow when I have to work. There is definatly a consiracy at work here. We might have to just jump on the ferry and go for a hike, rain or shine, if we ever want to go. As for work, the new position is going well. The second day on the job I was bombarded with staff compaints and requests that hadn't been addressed in the past, and I also got a new title added to my role, Opporations Coordinator. It sounds important, but I'm mostly just a liazon between departments. People keep asking Pat if he's found a job yet, and we then explain that we are mostly just on holiday and that I'm only working because I get antsy when I don't have a job, and that I'm a freak who has to work hard at relaxing. They then tell Pat that he's very clever for getting me to work so he can stay home. He then feels like a bum for a minute, but then remembers how happy he is every morning, as oppossed to dreading a long work day. I must say that I am very happy too. I like my job, I love New Zealand, and It's so nice to have Pat home. So, we are off on Operation Sun Seeker. We'll let you know how it goes!
Pat & Skeeter
Hi there! I'm Skeeter. I grew up moving a lot and that makes me a bit restless for travel and exploration. I started this blog with my husband Pat when we decided to backpack New Zealand for a year. We are always looking for the next adventure and are loving life. We're just your average couple with two sassy dogs and a love for travel. We're sharing our travels and the tips we pick up along the way.
Hello! I'm Liz. Blogging is very new to me, but I'm so excited to finally write as much as I talk!
