So this morning I was sappossed to be starting at Cafe Nina as a barista. I got a phone call though an hour befor I had to be there. It was the owner saying that the girl I was replacing's new job fell through, so she would no longer be leaving, and they would no longer need me to start. Bummer! But then just a few hours later I had another interview scheduled at a place called The Lost Spring (http://www.thelostspring.co.nz/). And happily I can report that I have a job that I start at tomorrow. It will be good to have something part time to replenish our travel fund a bit, and keep Pat from having to get a job at the mussell plant, unless he gets bored. (although we have been enjoying all the mussell jokes!) But he's been keeping himself pretty busy around the house chopping fire wood, fixing our mail box, and making plans to fixup Delilah. He's also been making us all sorts of delicious food everynight on our grill. We love the beach house! Whitianga is a wonderful town, and every person we've met is really nice. It's amazing how many strangers we've met who have helped us with everything from finding an apartment to finding a job and everything in between. It's one of those towns where everyone knows everyone else. We've only been here about a week, and people are already saying hello to us in the street. The local paper has a police blotter section, last week there were no arrests, and this week this is what it said " Two cars have been impounded in seperate incidents where the drivers thought that doing a skid was clever whilst intoxicated." So, it's pretty safe here. It reminds us of reading the police blotter in West Yellowstone.
Yesterday we went for a walk on the beach, and there was a thresher shark that had washed up on the beach. Yikes! Good news though, Thresher Sharks are not aggressive towards people. The beaches here are amazing! Although beaches in the U.S. beautiful, the ones here are also prestine. They are always free of liter, and there are covered in beautiful sea shells, sand dollers, and usually there are no other people for as far as you can see. I've never seen so many unbroken, beautiful seashells on every beach. We had fun yesterday celebrating Pat's birthday, and it's been beautiful here. NZ is pretty sweet!
Thanks everyone for following us!
Vashti, we got your emails. I'm not sure if ours to you are making it to you or not. If they aren't, let us know, and we will try again.
Hi there! I'm Skeeter. I grew up moving a lot and that makes me a bit restless for travel and exploration. I started this blog with my husband Pat when we decided to backpack New Zealand for a year. We are always looking for the next adventure and are loving life. We're just your average couple with two sassy dogs and a love for travel. We're sharing our travels and the tips we pick up along the way.
Hello! I'm Liz. Blogging is very new to me, but I'm so excited to finally write as much as I talk!
