Seek Adventure Travel Happy
So this is turning out to be a fantastic day! I logged into twitter to see that I had been nominated for a Liebster Award?
Wow, that's great, but what is it?!
It's a virtual award given to bloggers from other bloggers to recognize them for their work and to help bring attention to emerging bloggers.
I was shocked and flattered when I was nominated by Stinky Suitcase (http://stinkysuitcase.com) You should check them out. There are some great posts and beautiful pics to see.
Part of the Liebster Award requires the nominees to answer 11 questions, so here ya go!
1. Do you prefer destinations that are hot or cold?
I prefer warm destinations. I love the sun on my skin and the sand in my toes. Warm sunny weather always encourages me to go exploring. I love a cold day in snuggling, but for trips, warm weather is where it's at!
2. What is your greatest travel achievement?
I'd have to say our trip to New Zealand. It was a huge feat to sell basically everything we owned, and commit to living for nearly a year in a country that we had never been to. I was so happy that we took that big leap and went for it. It was one of the best things ever, and New Zealand will always have a special place in our hearts.
3. Which destination is at the top of your travel bucket list?
This is so hard to answer, it's more like, "what's not on the top of your bucket list?" But, if I had to pick one, I'd have to say Spain. I've been wanting to spend some serious time in Spain since I was probably 14. Spain is such a wonderfully diverse country with amazing food and architecture. It would be great to be able to spend a few months (or years) there.
4. Do you pack light or take a full range of kit just in case?
I used to pack a ton, but I've become pretty good at getting everything I need in a carry-on. It's so nice to not have to struggle with huge bags or pay additional luggage fees for stuff you end up not using. I'm a big believer that you can plan for most travel situations with a basic set of stuff. We did two weeks in a carry-on for Italy and I'm so glad! Italy would have been tough with a big suitcase.
5. What’s the most unusual souvenir you’ve picked up on your travels?
I feel like this shouldn't be hard one...but it is.... oh yeah. When I was 7, my family took a road trip to California. I saw a sign for kittens and insisted that I get one. Which my wonderful dad let me do. I snuggled my new cat, Molly, all the way from California to Illinois.
6. Do you prefer sea or land adventures?
I'd say I prefer sea adventures. I don't necessarily have to be ON the water, but I want to be near it, see it, smell it. I love being near the water!
7. What’s the most daring dish you’ve sampled on the road?
hmmm. A lot of where we've traveled has pretty tame items food wise. When we were in Italy there was this cone of fried seafood. I would only call it daring because all these little fish still had their eyes...which was a little disconcerting as we see their little faces right before you devour them because they were delicious.
8. When you travel, what do you miss the most about home?
Probably a familiar comfy bed to sleep in. There's nothing like climbing into your own bed after a long day of traveling.
9. Who is your favorite travel companion?
Pat for sure! He keeps me calm when I'm about to have a freak out. He embraces opportunities for adventure and encourages me to do the same, and he's gotten us out of more than one jam with his Macgyver skills. My dear friend Abby gets an honorable mention because she's a blasty blast to travel with!
10. What/who inspires you to travel most?
Growing up, it was probably magazines like National Geographic. I loved seeing pictures of people all over the world. I've always been fascinated with meeting people from different places and exploring new countries. Today, my favorite hobby when I'm not traveling is reading travel themed novels.
11.What are the three most important items you always take with you on your travels?
Definitely my camera! I have to have that for sure. My swim suite, because you just never know when you're going to have the chance for a dip! Last but not least, a great travel companion. Some of the best experiences are even better when you share them with a friend.
