About six weeks ago Pat and I instituted a new Sunday Funday policy. Instituting a policy might sound serious, and it is!
All I can think each Sunday is "Why haven't we been doing this forever?"
You might be asking, "What is this Sunday Funday you speak of?"
It's basically a mandatory have fun day. It's not just fun because it's the weekend. We make it an event and I cannot stress how awesome it is.
For YEARS I spent the weekend cleaning, doing projects around the house, and generally not having much fun. I hated feeling like my whole weekend was spoken for with all the stuff I felt like I had to do only to turn around and do it again next week.
With too many of those weekends in a row, I'm bound to have a freak out and start selling all my stuff and planning to take off to Spain with no warning...not that I'm saying that that's a terrible idea.
So to keep myself sane and spend some much needed time with Pat since I'm working crazy hours these days, Sunday Funday is now just what we do.
So what have we been doing?
Each week, we pick something new and fun to do. We usually go hiking or visit somewhere we haven't been before. We get something tasty to eat, and dessert is mandatory!
Even if you've lived in the same place for ages, I pretty much guarantee that within a 2 hour drive of you there's tons of things to do. Start making the time for fun.
And yes, I don't get as much cleaning done. There's always laundry left over to do now that there wasn't before. It's not worth wasting your life worrying about whether the laundry is done. Start making time for you, schedule it and make it mandatory.
Even if you're on a tight budget, you can make this work. Maybe you can't go out to eat, but you can probably afford to pick up a couple slices of cake to take on a picnic. Most of what we end up doing is free minus the gas and food. We still have things we're saving for but we don't want to put off living life.
I'm challenging you to start a Sunday Funday tradition this weekend
I want to hear all about what you're doing. Leave your Sunday Funday plans in the comments and if you're on Instagram post some pics with #happytravelers #sundayfunday
Not only is Sunday Funday a blast but it's also a way to help survive those times between when you can finally take that vacation you've been dreaming of and to help make winter more bearable.
And if you can't do it on Sunday, make it Saturday. Don't make excuses why you can't take one day to have fun. You deserve to have 1 day out of 7 for purely living life and having fun.
Seriously, don't put this off! I am kicking myself for waiting this long...what have I been doing with my life?!
Don't forget to hit us up in the comments and on Instagram and...
Hi there! I'm Skeeter. I grew up moving a lot and that makes me a bit restless for travel and exploration. I started this blog with my husband Pat when we decided to backpack New Zealand for a year. We are always looking for the next adventure and are loving life. We're just your average couple with two sassy dogs and a love for travel. We're sharing our travels and the tips we pick up along the way.
Hello! I'm Liz. Blogging is very new to me, but I'm so excited to finally write as much as I talk!
